The "evil eyes" of
HMM-163: One squadron, HMM-163, painted "evil
eyes" on the front of each of their H-34 helicopters.
Some sage claimed that they would scare the superstitious North
Vietnamese Army soldiers. Maybe they did, maybe they
didn't. In any event the "evil eyes"
became an HMM-163 tradition. Over 35 years later, HMM-163
still has evil eyes on the front of their helicopters (although
today the helicopters are H-46s, not the older H-34s). |
